West Papuan people from the Asmat and Kamoro tribes gathering to demand an independence referendum for West Papua. #LetWestPapuaVote!
Last year over 1.8 MILLION West Papuan people representing over 70% of the population signed a petition calling for an Internationally Supervised Vote (independence referendum) for West Papua.
Over 100 West Papuan children (mainly from the Asmat tribe) starved to death in the past few months and Human Rights Watch, together with the Asian Human Rights Commission have blamed the Indonesian government for their deaths. Despite the Indonesian military trying their best to publicise the symbolic giving of aid, West Papuan children continue to starve to death and these Asmat and Kamoro villagers are showing that the world they are not asking for the Indonesian military but for the Indonesian government to allow them their fundamental right to self-determination.
