Gorse Fire Uncovers Sign From Second World War on Ireland's East Coast

A gorse fire that burned through a coastal area of County Wicklow in Ireland uncovered a sign that dates from the Second World War, officials said on August 4. The sign reads, ‘ÉIRE’, the Irish language word for Ireland.The sign was made up of stones and carved into the ground in coastal areas around Ireland in order to warn Allied and German airmen that they were flying over a neutral country, RTÉ reported.Irish police said they were aware of a number of signs in different parts of the country but had not seen this one, which is located on Bray Head.This footage of the newly uncovered sign was filmed by Aidan O’Toole of NEAT Media.
