Justice Ministry to strengthen filtering processes of refugee applicants

South Korea's Justice Minister says the country will work to revise its refugee law and strengthen the refugee applicant screening process.
He says the safety of the Korean people comes first.
As part of the stricter screening process, the ministry says it will work to filter out so-called "fake refugees," who come to Korea for jobs.
To cut the long evaluation period for refugee applicants,... the South Korean government will also set up a professional and independent institution that will evaluate applications,... and will add staff to the screening process.
The government said it will fulfill its international duty, noting that the country's refugee acceptance rate currently falls far behind the average of other signatories of the UN refugee convention.
