Omotesando Koffee started out as a pop-up shop just a stone’s throw away from Tokyo’s Omotesando district. It was situated in a tiny, traditional Japanese home that was often hard to find, but locals and tourists always made sure it was a stop on their itinerary. Unfortunately, the original storefront closed at the end of 2015, due to the age of the space. However, Omotesando Koffee made such a huge mark on Japan’s culinary landscape that it spawned a larger, bigger location in the form of Toranomon Koffee. It was also able to open up its first international outpost — in Hong Kong. We went to the new shop to interview Omotesando Koffee’s founder, Eiichi Kunimoto, and we picked his brain on what coffee means to him, over one of the his famous brews.
