Volvo's engine lineup once offered too many options, keeping the costs of the individual engines high. The many variants have been simplified down to a single engine architecture, which now has both gasoline and diesel inline four-cylinder variants. The gasoline four cylinder features a turbocharger as well as a supercharger, allowing for good fuel efficiency, great response, high horsepower, and a wide torque curve.

As a result, this T6 engine architecture has won numerous Ward's Auto 10 Best Engine awards. In this video we'll be looking at the 2018 Volvo S90 T6 Inscription AWD, with it's 316 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque twincharged engine. But it doesn't end there. For the T8 engine Volvo adds a crank-integrated starter generator (C-ISG), as well as a rear-axle electric motor for AWD. The result is a plug-in hybrid with instant torque, good fuel efficiency, and loads of power.
