Over 60% of undocumented immigrants have lived here for more than 10 years. New Jersey has one of the highest percentages of immigrants in the United States. ICE's office in Newark is the most aggressive in the country according to ICE's own statistics. At the same time, the county jail holds the second largest number of immigrant detainees in a county jail in the country.
"The movement to close down detention centers and to release detainees is just at the beginning. You have the chance to decide now what side of history you will be on. These detention centers will ultimately be closed. It is only a question of when and it is only a question of whether you will be an obstacle to their closing or not."
In Middlesex County, the freeholders terminated their bed contract with ICE in 2009. We know that you can do it too!
