AT&T Already Considering an Overhaul of HBO AT&T is looking to make major changes at HBO after purchasing it less than a month ago. They reportedly want the network to produce more video that can compete for the attention of smartphone users. HBO has acknowledged making more shows could lead to a drop in quality, but hopes to do it without sacrificing its standard of excellence. AT&T wants to boost revenue in advertising and subscriptions, even if that means changing HBO's strategy of producing a small number of shows. HBO has made nearly $6 billion in profit over the past three years and devoted more than $2 billion per year to programming. Currently, the network has 40 million subscribers in the United States and 142 million worldwide.
