DIY racers pedal round Hampshire town for 'grand prix'

Thousands turned out to watch the British Pedal Car Grand Prix in Hampshire on Sunday (July 8).

The eccentric event sees DIY racing enthusiasts make their own pedal-powered race cars in Ringwood.

A total of 33 teams of four competed in the two-hour endurance race.

Writes the filmer: "Precious seconds are lost during each driver changeover, so the aim is for these to be as slick as possible, although not every team is able to achieve this.

"Most teams swapped drivers every two to three laps. Drivers also need to be able to manoeuvre their car around the tight bends at high speed with the use of a simple steering and braking mechanism."

According to local media, the race raises funds for good causes and thousands turned up to watch this year.
