Joe Hughes: I’ll ruin Tyrone Nurse’s reign as British champion

Joe Hughes has vowed to rip the title from long-standing British super lightweight champion Tyrone Nurse and warned he’s not to be underestimated.

Hughes has given up the English belt for a shot at Nurse, who should be in his Lonsdale belt fight but hasn’t made his mandatory defences.

The 26-year-old from Wiltshire will get his opportunity on Saturday night at the Leicester Arena, live on BoxNation and BT Sport.

The two clashed in the amateur ranks and Nurse prevailed on points, but Hughes warned this will be a completely different fight 10 years on.

He feels he’s been written off, with Nurse planning to fight in Leeds on May 13 if he comes through this title test.

Hughes wants to ruin his plans for the foreseeable future and told Seconds Out reporter Craig Birch that Nurse is in for a shock.
