China Mobile faces U.S. ban over spying fears
  • 6 years ago
Amid the ongoing trade spat between the U.S. and China,... the Trump administration is moving to ban China Mobile, a state-owned Chinese wireless carrier, from entering the American market,... citing national security concerns.
According to David Redl, the assistant secretary for communications and information at the U.S. Department of Commerce,... "concerns about increased risks to U.S. law enforcement and national security interests were unable to be resolved", despite "significant engagement" with the wireless carrier.
Any ban would require the Federal Communications Commission's approval.
China Mobile is the world's largest telecom carrier with some 900 million subscribers.
