Irrespective of the high security techniques used by companies they have been unable to completely secure their data. Here are some of the biggest data scandals which the world will always remember:
Facebook
Streaming latest on all news channels and websites is the latest data scandal of Facebook. The company shared data of its users with 60 phone makers.
Facebook let the device manufacturers develop Facebook versions on their devices so users could have Facebook easily accessible on their phones. It is a sort of extended viewing of Facebook. This let the manufacturers obtain data of the user and even the data of the user’s friends who had denied sharing information with third-parties.
Earlier Facebook was involved in a data scandal with Cambridge Analytica where data of 87 million users was shared with the consulting firm.
Equifax
Personal information of 143 million users and credit card details of 209,000 users was breached.
The breach began in the month of May of the same year but it was discovered only on 29 July, 2017.
Adult Friend Finder
The data breach happened in the month of October, 2016. About 412 million accounts were compromised.
20 years data was collected on six databases which included names, email ids and passwords.
SHA-1 hashing algorithm was used by the company to protect the passwords which is considered to be vulnerable.
Anthem
The famous insurance company of United States was breached for personal data in the month of February, 2015. Employment histories, social security numbers, addresses, date of births etc. were stolen from 78.8 million customers.
An Anthem user clicked on a phishing email which caused the data breach.
