A farmer climbed down a 40-feet well to rescue a peacock.

People of a village near Bidar in South India noticed that the bird had fallen into the well on June 17.

Two men got down the well to rescue it. But the peacock, which was injured and agitated, resisted by trying to peck at them as they got close.

A local resident Ramu Khandre said: “Getting down the well itself was a risky business as it did not have steps. None dared to go down on a rope and bring up the highly agitated bird.”

A local farmer Mohammed Jaffer, 36, volunteered to bring the bird up.

He went down holding a rope and caught the bird, which had become a little weak by then. He secured it to another rope and climbed up, hauling the bird along with him.

“The bird scratched my hand and made it bleed,” said Jaffer.

He later took the bird to a vet to get it treated and handed it over to forest officials.
