Ingredients:
50g unsalted butter, well softened
50g caster sugar
1 egg, lightly beaten
2 tbsp milk
50g self-raising flour
2 tbsp golden syrup

Method:
1. Cream together the butter and sugar until smooth. Mix in the egg and milk gradually, then gently fold in the flour.
2. Put the golden syrup or jam in the bottom of a microwave-safe bowl. Pour in the sponge mixture.
3. Cover and cook for three minutes on full power (for a 1,000 watt oven, if your microwave is weaker, up the cooking time). Take care, both the bowl and pudding will be hot, hot, hot.
4. Eat with custard. That is an order.
