A plucky raccoon was spotted scaling the UBS tower in Saint Paul, Minnesota, on Tuesday, June 12.The incredible climber, which reached the building’s 22nd floor, quickly became an internet sensation, sparking huge interest on social media. This video was captured by office worker Chelsea Palmateer. Soon after sharing it, she tweeted her concerns for the raccoon’s safety. “I had to go back inside because my break was over,” she said. “When I left he had made it to the top row of windows. I’m very scared now—after this there are no more ledges for him to rest on and it’s probably a 25-30ft climb to get to the roof from where he is.”The racoon eventually stopped for a nap on a window ledge on the 22nd floor, Twin Cities Pioneer Press reported. The animal was still stranded as of 6pm local time, the news site reported, but animal control officials had placed a trap with bait on the roof of the building in an attempt to capture it.Minnesota Public Radio employees, who work opposite the UBS building, adopted the hashtag #MPRraccoon, which began trending.Saint Paul mayor Melvin Carter used the incident for publicity, tweeting: “Even wild animals know @cityofsaintpaul is a great place to reach for higher heights. We’re working with staff & building owner to find a way to help #MPRraccoon without further endangering it or staff by scaring or making it feel threatened.” Credit: Chelsea Palmateer via Storyful
