What happens when an iconic WWE wrestler takes on a famous first-person shooter? To answer that, we have to go back to 2005 when the Play Station 3, the Xbox 360 and the Nintendo Wii were all announced within the year. Resident Evil and Grand Theft Auto had people obsessed with gaming. What’s more, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson was starring in a film adaptation of the game “Doom.”

Doom combines space and shooting cyborg demons — which could have made for a great film except they didn't seem to base it off the game at all. One of the most successful aspects of the original Doom was its grungy aesthetic, which didn’t transfer over to the film. It also didn’t depict “hell” in as much of an objective sense — which was what players really liked about the game.

It also didn’t feature has many creepy creatures as the FPS did — rather than demons from hell, the monsters are genetic mutations, which also deviated from the original aesthetic. Finally, the good parts of the movie, aka the actually parts the mimic a first-person shooter, were completely cut short, giving more time for the action that didn’t resemble Doom at all. We like the The Rock, but this may be one of the few flicks that missed the mark.
