Why Disney Really Moved Infinity War

Apparently, Disney wants to release Infinity World a week early. Between Star Wars and Marvel movies, they essentially have a monopoly on the summer blockbuster season, and the moves they make impact ever other studio’s move — sort of like a game of chess.

Seven days doesn’t seem like a lot but they could make a huge impact — billions of dollars’ worth. So why did Disney really make the move that it did?

The blockbuster season usually kicks off the first week in May, and Disney staked out the 4th of May years in advance. This affects movies like “Rampage” though the Rock denies that its shaking up their schedule.

It could also be that “Solo” is the most anticipated movie of the summer. Currently there’s a lot of negative buzz going on around the movie, and the other studios definitely smell blood in the water. The is probably why Fox slated “Deadpool” before “Solo” so there will be a direct comparison. It was originally supposed to come out after “Solo” and some other big blockbusters, so there was a good chance that moviegoers would get too burnt out to see it.

Timing is everything and Disney definitely knows this. Put one movie too close to another and one is bound to suffer, which is why they’re plotting for success.
