The upcoming Peugeot 508 SW has been leaked on social media, shortly after the French manufacturer issued a teaser for its all-new wagon.

Following reports a month ago claiming a replacement for the current 508 Touring was heading to the Paris motor show, the brand issued a teaser via Twitter – asking viewers to #BreakTheCodes to uncover the new model's name.

It appears the new car will be named 508 'SW', or 'Sportswagon', and be pitched as the more practical alternative to the recently-revealed 508 sedan (below).

In the tweet thread that followed the teaser, Twitter user Alexis Hubert (@Al_Hbrt) posted an image of an undisguised station wagon (top) which shows the new wagon's side profile.

From the B-pillar forward the 508 SW looks pretty identical to the sedan, while at the back the extended roofline drops into a fastback-style tailgate that looks a bit like the Ferrari GTC4 Lusso.

It also looks like the rear will have a similar lip spoiler and tail-light arrangement to the sedan, though with the wagon booty stuck on top.

Expect the engine range to mirror that of its sedan equivalent, meaning a line-up of turbocharged petrol and diesel engines displacing up to 2.0-litres.

Headlining the sedan range are a 168kW 1.6-litre turbo petrol and a 134kW 2.0-litre turbo-diesel, both mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission.

We're guessing the 508 SW will be officially revealed very soon, ahead of a European launch later this year or early next. Given Peugeot's local arm hasn't confirmed a launch date yet, it could be a year or more before we see the wagon here.
