The historic city of York is facing a recurring flooding nightmare as rivers surrounding its ancient streets have topped over their banks following Storm Eleanor. Flood warnings were issued today (Thurs) by the Environment Agency to properties neighbouring the River Ouse - which runs directly through the centre of the city. The river lapped over its banks overnight due to a combination of high tides and continuous spells of heavy rain. The Environment Agency issued a flood warning to riverside properties and told residents 'immediate action is required'.
