A father-of-two with "locked in" syndrome who wants doctors to help him die with dignity in Britain has won the right for his case to proceed at the High Court. Civil engineer Tony Nicklinson, 58, lost all movement in his body from the neck down after suffering a sudden catastrophic stroke on a business trip to Greece in 2005. He wants a doctor to help him in a 'mercy killing' as he is confined to a wheelchair and can only communicate through moving his head and eyes. The Ministry of Justice had attempted to derail the case after arguing that only Parliament could change the law on murder. But Mr Justice Charles has thrown out the Government's legal challenge and given the go-ahead for the case to be heard in open court.
