Two men and a woman have been charged with the murder of a man, who was found dead in a gruesome woodchipper incident near Gympie in 2017.

Police found 54-year-old Bruce Saunders’ body in a “horiffic” and “very distressing” scene inside an industrial woodchipper on a property in Goomboorian on November 12.

Detective inspector Gary Pettiford said investigators originally believed the death to be an accident, suspecting Saunders had fallen into the machine while clearing trees, but later decided to treat the situation as suspicious, ABC reported.

“The injuries sustained were as horrific as you can imagine, being consumed by a woodchipper,” he said.

“After many months of very professional, painstaking and thorough work it’s culminated today with the arrest of the three offenders that we will be alleging murdered Mr Saunders.”

Gregory Roser, 59, and Peter Koenig, 61, were arrested in Deception Bay and Gympie on Tuesday morning. Sharon Graham, 57, was arrested in Coolangatta while travelling into Queensland from New South Wales. The three have all been charged with murder and attempting to pervert the course of justice and appeared at Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Tuesday afternoon, police said.
