A memorial service was held, to mark the ninth anniversary of the late South Korean President Roh Moo-hyun's passing.
It took place today in Bongha Village in Gyeongsangnam-do... Province -- the former leader's hometown and where he was laid to rest.
In a memorial address,... National Assembly Speaker Chung Sye-kyun... said that he... is remembered for his efforts to eliminate regionalism and establish peace on the Peninsula.
Roh Moo-hyun... served as the nation's president from 2003 to 2008.
Many remember him as a warm, progressive leader... dedicated to improving people's lives and fighting corruption.
However he had to endure a lot of turbulence during and after his term.
There was an attempt by lawmakers to have him removed from office,... and he was later mired in a bribery scandal that prompted him to take his own life.
The service was attended by thousands of his supporters, including former first lady Kwon Yang-sook,... as well as lawmakers from both sides of the aisle.
