A weekend I will never forget! I joined Bugatti during the Nürburgring 24 Hour race weekend, for an opportunity to be part of their first ever public outing with both the Veyron 16.4 Super Sport WRE record breaking car, and the Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport Vitesse WRC record car.
During this time I was able to experience the Super Sport WRE, a car that set a record at 431km/h, both on road and on the airfield to +300km/h, before jumping behind the wheel of the Vitesse WRC for my first ever drive in a Veyron. The trip culminated with the two Bugattis leading the parade lap on the full Nürburgring Nordschleife and Grand Prix circuit, with 180 race cars in hot pursuit before the annual 24 hour race commenced.
The Veyron 16.4 first launch 10 years ago, and it is without doubt an iconic supercar that will be considered a benchmark vehicle for many years to come. Over the years the Grand Sport, then Super Sport, and finally the Vitesse were launched, based around the same W16 quad-turbo charged engine producing 1001PS and 1200PS in the respective versions. It's undisputable that the way the Veyron goes about putting its power down is totally effortless and without drama, an incredible achievement all around. It demonstrates so brilliantly both daily driving capabilities, yet on full throttle forces you into the back of your seat in a way no other car can out-perform.
The legend may be nearing the end of its time, but it is far from over and I very much look forward to seeing what Bugatti have in the pipeline. Having been so far ahead of the competition with the launch of the Veyron they achieved something remarkable.
Thanks for watching, Tim
