Episode 10 : Preparing substrate: chopping straw - Mushroom Cultivation Videos Episode X
In this video, I show :
1:00 - how to select a straw bale for mushroom cultivation
I choose the straw that doesn't have :
a. rusty wires
b. fungal dots and discolorations
c. bacterial blackness
d. palpable moisture
Most of the time, but not always, the lighter the bale, the drier it is.
4:00 - The wood chipper/shredder we use to chip the straw a VIKING GE 345 2500W
5:00 - A demo of how I chop the straw with the machine from subjective camera
6:36 - Dust protection measures, and A demo of how I chop the straw with the machine from objective camera. Mask for breath, well closed classes for eyes, gloves for hands, and a cap for hair.
7:40 - The difference between chipping the straw once and twice, and I describe my older diy chipper that was slow but did a finer cut.
10:40 - How we pre-weight and fill the final straw in cloth bags (to avoid spreading dust in the lab), ready for pasteurization
PlayItYourself Soundtrack, me practicing at the saxophone, I hope find it refreshing ;)
