The Flirtations - Make A Good Thing Better

The Flirtations sing "Make A Good Thing Better", a song which Clive and I wrote for Simon Cowell back in 2002, and a song which we feel is the best we have ever cut with these girls. They have been together recording for forty four years and look just fabulous still, right up to this day. The girls started out as the Gypsies on Old Town Records, a classic teenage girl group from New York, with the early sixties classics, "Jerk It", and the Northern Soul legendary classic "It's A Woman's World", before becoming The Flirtations, and emigrating to England. They had many hits in the late 1960's and early 1970's, including "Nothing But A Heartache", and another Northern Soul classic, "Need Your Love", on the Deram label. In the late seventies they disbanded, and I got to produce a whole album on Pearly, called "No Two Ways About It". In the meantime, the Flirtations, without Pearly, had reformed for Proto Records with the high energy anthem, "Earthquake". This line up of The Flirtations then went to Passion Records and I got to produce them on "Read All About It". And at the same time, Pearly herself did a solo track for a label called Funkin Marvellous, called "Action", which George Hargreaves produced, and this was a huge floorfilling classic, and one of the most popular High Energy records of the 1980's. Then Pearly rejoined the Flirtations, and all three original girls, Earnestine, Shirley, and Pearly, were back together once again. We then did a Flirtations single for Nightmare Records, called "Back On My Feet Again", and also a solo track with Pearly called "One Less Bell To Answer". Very few 1960's girl groups are still together, and ever fewer look like these fabulous three. My girls have redone this beautiful and poignant song - a truly beautiful song for a beautiful group. These three ladies will have you dancing off the ceiling. This is another fabulous track from my album "Northern Soul 2009". The follow up album to my fantastic floorfiller albums "Northern Soul 2007" and "Northern Soul 2008". Myself and Clive Scott co-wrote all the songs on this album before he passed away. Fifteen of the songs were finished and we had started the music for six more but never got to finish them. So, in honour of his memory, I have compiled a further seven songs which Clive and I had written for various projects but had never been released. It seemed only right that Clive's last ever project should contain all songs that he had written with me. With a heavy heart, we set about the task of completing this project to keep his skill and talent alive forever. A bittersweet loving tribute to the much missed Clive Scott.
