"Because Of You" is one of the obvious missing tracks from my documentary "The Strange World of Northern Soul". The track was originally sung by the legendary Jackie Wilson. I wanted to have the song in our box set, but nobody could ever sing it like Jackie. So rather than try, I decided to go for a female version of it, to add a new dimension to this wonderful song. I simply had to re do it in the same way as we did "Kiss My Love Goodbye" with Tammi Lavette, "Long After Tonight Is All Over" with Winston Ward, "It'll Never Be Over For Me" by Pat Lewis and "I Go To Pieces Everytime" by P.P. Arnold. But, Jackie had some pretty big shoes to fill. The only female voice who could do it justice is my wonderful Verna Francis and wow, didn't she do it justice. I asked Verna to sing "Because Of You", because I believe no-one would compare it unfavourably to the original. The track features on "Northern Soul's Greatest 200 Floorfillers" which includes some of the same songs and video's from "The Strange World of Northern Soul", just re-edited, so they looked fresh and sparkling new. We believe this set of 200 classic songs will go down in history as the greatest Northern Soul DVD collection of all time.
