Mary Kiani sings a fabulous version of my 1985 classic, much beloved soul anthem, originally by Miquel Brown, "Close To perfection". I first met Mary when she lived with John Reid in Glasgow, and he and I were writing lots of hits together in the early 1990's. She sang backing vocals along with John for my Paul Young album, alongside Billy Griffin and Lamont Dozier. She signed to Mercury Records and had a big dance club hit with "Real Love". The late great New York DJ, Shaun Buchanan, championed the original version of this record, "Close To Perfection", and made it one of the anthems at the legendary nightclub, The Saint in New York in the 1980's. This wonderful song became a "sleaze" anthem in New York. The word "sleaze" meaning slower, cooler music which they played later on in the night, to cool things down after the peak of all the High Energy. The song was also picked up by Tony Blackburn and adored by the London Soul Fraternity. Mary Kiani is half Indian and has an amazing soulful voice. She will have you dancing in the aisles with this killer remake, and her amazing version simply gives me goosebumps, as does this wonderful video. This track was filmed especially for my album, "Yesterday And Tomorrow". In total there are 30 tracks, twenty four for the CD and six bonus ones for the DVD. The songs I picked are either my biggest hits, my most beloved tracks, or the songs which people most requested to see a video of. As I must clearly explain, these are not the original versions. And that's what makes the project exciting and new. These are brand spanking new interpretations of the classics.
