Edwin Starr - Where Is The Sound

Only Edwin Starr could get away with singing a song which contained the words "Stax, Atlantic, Motown, Brunswick, Chess, and Ric Tic", and actually make it work. The sentiment of the song was about music not being as good as it used to, and how those wonderful old soul records meant something special and wonderful every time you heard them. Edwin did an infectious live performance of it with his band, back in 1991. He really cared very deeply about what we were trying to do with Motorcity, and indeed, was our greatest ambassador for it, ceaselessly championing it everywhere he went. A true gentleman and a true friend.
