Trump: 'We Are Seriously Thinking Of The Space Force'

President Trump on Tuesday again floated the idea of a space force.

President Trump on Tuesday presented the Commander-in-Chief's trophy to the U.S. Army West Point Black Knights and, during his address, brought up the topic of the "space force."  "You will be part of the five proud branches of the United States Armed Forces, Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, and the Coast Guard, and we're actually thinking of a sixth, and that would be the Space Force," the president said. "We're getting very big in space both militarily and for other reasons, and we are seriously thinking of the Space Force and you'll join the greatest force for peace and justice the world has ever known," Trump continued. This isn't the first time the president has mentioned the possible addition, notes CBS News. Over a month ago, he told service members that he'd come up with the idea during a recent discussion on spending, both public and private, in space.  He recalled, "I said, 'maybe we need a new force, we'll call it the Space Force,' and I was not really serious. Then I said, 'what a great idea,' maybe we'll have to do that." It's unclear how Trump's Space Force differs from the Space Corps that was proposed to the House of Representatives last year.  While that effort lacked the support of key Pentagon figures, the military has voiced concerns about how the space activities of other nations could compromise the security of the United States.
