IPO Market Off To Slow, Bumpy Start In 2018

Investing.com - With uncertainty and volatility running high, stock market conditions have not been friendly for initial public offerings, and so far it's been a rocky road for performance.There were 51 IPOS in the first quarter, down 31% from the fourth quarter of 2017, according to Factset. Another 15 launched in April. So far, 12 listings have been shelved in 2018.Though two out of three companies posted gains their first day of trading, about 60% are now below their offer price--in some cases well below that price.Two highly anticipated IPOs, Dropbox and Spotify, which used the direct listing method, are up 40% and 13%, respectively.Three big IPOs from 2017, Snap, Blue Apron and Altice, are all still below their debut price.
