In this video review we push the Mazda 3 through pothole-ridden roads and harsh terrain across Vladivostok, Russia.

Over a thousand miles and three days, we tested things like fuel economy, practicality and more. The Mazda 3 has a 2.0-litre naturally-aspirated engine with 118bhp. Mazda believe you can get nearer to official claimed economy figures - 55mpg - with this engine.

The new Mazda 3 is a lot more spacious than the previous model, with a roofline that provides great headroom and plenty of legroom in the rear seats - along with all our camera gear. You can also get 1,250 litres of boot space with the rear seats folded, and there's a saloon version of the Mazda 3 on the way.

The Mazda 3 provides a great drive, with a good driving position, responsive steering and it feels sporty, too. At the end of our journey, we averaged 40mpg, compared to 55mpg. So not too far away from the official figure.

The Mazda 3 is comfortable, refined, fuel efficient and it's a lot of fun. Watch the video review for more of an insight.
