How to run a successful DJ's label / DJ Mag Panels

When it comes to big name DJs, having a label is a chance to show off knowledge and shape the scene — but the hectic touring lifestyle can often get in the way. So as the old saying goes, behind every successful DJ’s imprint is a dedicated label manager running the show.

In the latest edition of DJ Mag Panels, we welcome three faces working behind the curtain, to find out what it takes to run some of the dance music’s best-loved, DJ-owned labels.

As well as a successful DJ in his own right, Matt Tolfrey is label manager for The Martinez Brothers’ Cuttin’ Headz and Darius Syrossian’s Do Not Sleep, amongst others.

Tom Mullett is label manager at Med School, off-shoot of London Elektricity’s drum & bass powerhouse Hospital Records, where he also handles production and podcasts.

And Olly Gee is label manager at Stanton Warriors’ Punks Music, assistant label manager at Luke Solomon and Justin Harris’ Music For Freaks, and owner of OG Music Management.
