The Elegance of Shark Fin Soup 鱼翅汤

Shark fin soup 鱼翅汤 is originally from China and the shark fins are seen as a delicacy. The broth itself is super tasty & thick with chicken like flavoring because shark fins have almost no taste. It is served in a clay pot that you can either eat by yourself or share with others using a secondary smaller soup bowl.

Shark fin soup is eaten at most Chinese & Thai weddings in Thailand and is also popular in restaurants specializing in it. There are a lot of restaurants in Bangkok's Chinatown as well as the downtown Sukhumvit areas.

Many Bangkok restaurants these days may add large chunks of premium crab meat to make the product as valuable as the retail price is. There are also more traditional restaurants still famous for their shark fin, herbs and broth medicinal recipes that thousands of happy consumers still go to month. Personally, I like the more commercial ones with crab meat but won't turn down a night out with great friends over a more traditional dish.
