UFO House/Futuro Flying Saucer Home

There were not many produced. This one lies in Hancock Harbor Marina, Greenwich, NJ

This one is only the shell of a Futuro flying saucer home

The portable, prefabricated home design from 1968 is by Finnish architect Matti Suuronen

Matti Suuronen (June 14, 1933-April 16, 2013) was a Finnish architect who is best known for making the Futuro and the Venturo houses.

Futuro Houses, these 20th Century prefabricated homes are often referred to as "UFO Houses"

Fewer than 100 were built during the late 1960s and early 1970s

They originally intended to be used as mobile skiing cabins

The Futuro was too radical and unacceptable tastes of the public who demanded that houses resemble the houses they remembered from their childhood.

In several cases, wives threatened to divorce their husbands if they did not cancel their orders of Futuro houses because, as they put it, “I don’t want to be associated with a man who would dare to have such a weird house."

One Futuro house was found to be biodegrading by Cyanobacteria and Archaea
