Egypt and Russia resume direct flights after two-year suspension

Egypt and Russia have resumed direct flights after a halt of over two years. Russia had suspended flights to Egypt after a home-made bomb exploded in a Russian plane over the Sinai peninsula in 2015. The explosion killed all the 224 people who were on board. This resumption has come after prolonged negotiations. The Egyptian tourism industry has been suffering through losses for the past few years, especially after the suspension of flights and the uprising against Hosni Mobarak. The decision to resume the flights between Russia and Egypt is expected to help the tourism economy of the latter.
