A filmer dropped balls of water on hot metal to create a mesmerizing display known at the Leidenfrost effect.

In the video, balls of water that have been dyed blue get dropped on hot metal and skip across the surface.

“As the water makes contact with the very hot metal, the bottom surface of the water boils, forming a cushion and insulating effect on the drop of water,” the filmer explained. “The water drop will then hover on this cushion of steam and will not heat up anymore.”
