Several hundred people gathered outside the East London Mosque on Whitechapel Road in East London on April 3 to form a human chain and stand united against Islamophobia, anti-semitism and racism after an anonymous letter entitled “Punish a Muslim Day” was sent to various Muslim community and government leaders across the country.
The letter marked April 3 as “Punish a Muslim Day.”
Rushanara Ali, the local Labour MP for Bow and Bethnal Green in East London, was one of those who received a letter.
“We are hear to reinforce the message to the wider community that we are not afraid,” Ali said.
