Hey its Andy with Channel Empire. Whats new besides the new Cards feature on YouTube? YouTube has a new feature called Cards, and its like annotations on steroids. The next level of annotations basically. Its what annotations should have been in the first place, but its called Cards and its a separate feature than annotations. In this video Ill show you quickly how to use them on your own videos so you can increase viewer engagement.\r
\r
When youre logged into YouTube under your Video Manager click on the Channel button on the left side. Make sure that your channel is in good standing because this wont work if youre in bad standing. Go back to your videos and find a video that you want to enable the Cards feature on. Click the arrow next to the Edit button on the video and then click Cards. Itll take you to the Cards section where you can add Cards.\r
\r
What are Cards and what is their purpose? Basically they compel the viewer to take some type of ion. For example, if Im doing a video and I mention my website thats when I want a card to pop up with the link that says Visit my website. Thats what a card is for.\r
\r
In your video youre going to find the spot that you want the card to pop up. Itll always pop up in the top right of the video. In this sample video 19 seconds in I would like a card to pop up saying Visit the full blog post. Click Add Card. You can add different types of ions: associated website, fundraising sites (Patreon page), merchandise site, and a video or playlist. Im going to click Create on Associated Website and then type in the website URL to the blog post that I want the viewers to visit. Itll populate the blog post and pictures, or you can upload your own custom image. Type in your title and your call to ion teaser text. Then click Create Card. Now you can see that at 19 seconds in this teaser text will pop up for a couple seconds. However, the “i” icon will always be on the video. So if viewers hover over your video the “i” will be visible and they can click on it. When they click on it thats when they see the card and if they click on that itll open up a new tab to that site. You can do this throughout the video, but theres a limit of 5 cards per video. Its a great way to get people to take ion.\r
\r
Thats an example of how Cards work, and they also work on mobile devices too. Annotations do not work on mobile devices so thats a benefit hat Cards have over annotations. Cards will definitely help increase your engagement and call to ions as far as conversions go. Leave a comment and let me know what youre going to use this Card feature for mostly.\r
