7.The Cherchen Man\r
Discovering this mummy was a real eye opener for historians. This 3000 year old mummy was found buried in China. What is baffling is that he is caucasian and was found wearing perfectly preserved european wool. DNA testing confirmed that the man is of European descent but no one is quite sure how he ended up buried in China. Carbon dating of items found in the mans tomb revealed that it was indeed an ancient site and that the mummy could not be a hoax. This mysterious discovery has forced historians to re explore what they thought they knew about the interion of Eastern and Western civilizations. \r

6.The Tollund Man\r
This 2000 year old corpse was discovered in 1950 in the bogs of the Danish Jutland Peninsula by some very suprised farmers. The corpse was so well preserved that the farmers thought he could be a present day murder victim! The face is in such good shape that you can see a calm expression and the wrinkles associated with old age. Examination of the body over the years revealed rope marks around his neck and a swollen tongue, for whatever reason the man was hanged. Due to archaic preservation techniques only the mans head, feet and right thumb were permanently preserved. These remains, along with a replica body, are on display in Denmark.\r

5.Dashi-Dorzho Itigilov\r
Perhaps the most peaceful appearing mummy in existence, this Russian Buddhist lama monk made a request to be buried how he was found in his last testament. He died mid chant in 1927 and was found wearing his robes and sitting in the lotus position. True to his wishes he was buried exly as he was found. Throughout the years the remains were exhumed twice and found to be incorrupt both times. This great mans mummies was declared a sacred relic by the Buddhist conference and his body was placed in an outdoor shrine where it remains to this day.\r

4.The Beauty of Xiaohe\r
A group of mummies was found by archaeologists excavating Chinas Xiaohe Mudi Graveyards in 2003. The most well known of these mummies would eventually become known as the Beauty of Xiaohe. With hair, skin and eyelashes perfectly int this mummies natural beauty is still evident despite the f that she lived almost 4 thousand years ago. She was found in a wooden boat coffin dressed in a wool hat and was a priestess and a village leader when she lived. She is the face of the Xinjiang region which has become known for and produced some of the best naturally preserved mummies in the world.\r

3.The Crystal Maiden\r
The Actun Tunichil Muknal is an ancient Mayan temple located in Belize. It was first explored by humans in the 1980s and has since become a tourist destination due to something remarkable that the temple contained. Known as the Crystal Maiden, this amazingly well preserved full skeleton of a woman in her twenties is thought to be about 1,000 years old. The remains are calcified, giving the bones a sparkly appearance that is simply breathtaking for visitors of the site. It has been determined that the woman was sacrificed as part of a ritual, something that is very commonplace in Mayan culture. While there are other skeletons in the temple, none are as int or have the awe inspiring appearance that the Crystal Maiden does. \r

Ramesses the second is considered to be one of the most powerful and influential pharaohs of ancient Egypt. While the lifespan of an average Egyptian in ancient Egypt was less than 40 years, Ramesses lived to the ripe old age of 91. Living to this age was basically unheard of in these times and this helped bolster Ramesses god like reputation. He ruled as pharaoh for 66 years, expanding the already great empire exponentially and building more monuments and temples than any other pharaoh. After his passing, the great ruler was buried in the Valley of the Kings. Due to tomb robbing, Ramesses remains were moved several times throughout the years until the mummy finally ended up at the Museum of Cairo. This mummy is widely considered to be the best preserved mummy ever found in Egypt.\r
