Samthing Soweto started his career as one of the founding members of the South African acapella group The Soil, having been credited as writing and composed 8 of the 11 songs released on the group’s multi-platinum, self-titled debut album, The Soil. “Joy” (We Are Family), one of the songs that Sam composed in the album, was featured in Cadbury Dairy Milk’s Free the Joy campaign, which went on to win a Wawela Award in 2016.
His music has also been featured in South African television shows and films, such as Isidingo, Big Brother Mzansi, the title sequence of Rhythm City and as the soundtrack of the movie Othello Burning.
In 2016, he collaborated with Sun – El Musician on his hit song Akanamali, which topped several music charts across the country for many weeks in 2017. The song “Akanamali” is currently used in First National Bank’s latest ad campaign, also titled “AkanaMali”.
After the success of the Gold Tour last year, with sold out shows at the Soweto Theatre, the Orbit, the Jazzy Rainbow and Alma Café, Samthing Soweto’s artistry, talent and creative production continues to get bigger and better. The hit maker is on a steady journey to cement himself as a household name in the South Africa and the world. With the #StreamTour, he intends on taking as many people as possible along with him on this
journey.
