Introduction
The surah tells about signs of the coming of the day of judgement. Some of these signs include the following:
- When the sun is shrouded in darkness
- When the stars lose their light
- When the mountains are made to vanish
- When the seas boil over
- When the she-camel about to give birth is left untended.
There is a striking similarity to the end of universe as predicted by scientists, who say the sun will first become a "Red Giant" about 5 billion years from now and then slowly loose all it's light to eventually become a "Brown Dwarf". Before the sun becomes a "Brown Dwarf" it will make all mountains on earth vanish by melting the earth during its "Red Giant" stage, and will also cause all seas to boil over during this time. All the stars in the universe are predicted to go through "The Big Freeze" in which they will all die out.
The condemnation of female infanticide was revealed in ayat 8,9 of this surah: "And when the female (infant) buried alive (as the pagan Arabs used to do) shall be questioned: (8) For what sin she was killed? (9)"
