Unexploded bomb at FedEx could help in Austin serial bomber hunt

AUSTIN, TEXAS — An unexploded package found on Tuesday could help investigators in their search for a suspected serial bomber.

A string of explosions in Austin has left two dead and four injured.

A fifth parcel bomb detonated shortly after midnight on Tuesday at a FedEx center in Schertz, Texas, when the package went off on a conveyor belt, injuring one person.

Later Tuesday morning, a second suspicious package was found at another FedEx facility near Austin and was "disrupted by law enforcement," according to CBS News.

FBI officials say the package "contained an explosive device," while emergency dispatch audio reported there were nails and metals in the parcel.

The FBI said in a news release on Tuesday that all six packages were connected. There have been three types of bombs used: hand delivered, tripwire and delivered.

Investigators will now study the unexploded device to look for clues and signatures that could help lead to the bomb maker.
