How To Tell The Gender Of Any Bird At Home [Without DNA Test] - The Pendulum Method
NOTE: This method is not 100% accurate all the time, many people said it didn't work properly and on the other hand many people said it's working accurately, so I am just sharing this method with you guys, it's totally upto you to decide weather it is working correctly or not.This method is based on magnetoception in birds, try this on your birds, and tell us your experiences.
1.Hold your hand still, shaky hands are not good for this method.
2.Use your hand in holding the tip of the string , hanging the Copper needle/Ring down . The other hand is used to hold the bird . Put the pendulum over the beginning of the bird's tail .
3.In case of male birds the needle/ring will move in a straight line back and forth before stopping.
4.In case of female birds the needle/ring will move in a round motion.
Another Effective Method: Outside of DNA testing, you can judge the sex of the bird by the width of their hip bones. Place your thumb (or finger) on the vent of the chick. Right above the vent (ie: the direction toward the center of the body) you will feel two bony protrusions.
That is their hip bones.
If they are close together, it is male. If they are spaced farther apart, it is female (to allow for eggs to pass).
You will need to feel both a male and female to judge the differences in hip bone spacing.
