Vat Savitri Vrat Katha - Satyavan Savitri Story

The Vat Savitri Vrat falls on the full moon( Poornima) and New moon day(Amavashya) day of the month of Jyeshtha , around May-June. Some women celebrate it on Poornima and some on Amavasya. The married Women observe Vat Savitri Vrat with the intention of preserving their husbands good fortune and wishing a healthy life for them. On this day, women fast and worship the Vat (Bargad, Banyan ) tree for the welfare of their husband and family. Many hindu women observe this festival and worship Savitri as a Devi. On this day, women get up early in the morning, take bath, wear new dress, prepare Prasad, decorate puja thali and go to any nearest banyan tree. If the tree is not available in the area then they draw the picture of it on the wall and worship that. Then they listen to the Vat Savitri Katha or we can say that the story of Satyavan and Savitri.\r
