Bridge that collapsed was behind schedule and over budget, report says

“Construction of the pedestrian bridge that collapsed and killed six people in the Miami area was behind schedule and millions over budget, in part because of a key change in the design and placement of one of its support towers,” according to a report by The Associated Press.

An eyewitness filmed the pedestrian bridge at Florida International University in Miami after it had collapsed onto a highway on March 15.

“I was in my room and I heard the loudest boom in my life,” said Gabriela Collazo, who filmed the video. “I thought it was a crane that fell, but I go out in my balcony and see this absolutely horrific scene. I just want to send prayers to all those involved and those families who lost a loved one today.”
