6. Jose Salvador Alvarenga: In new, a man from El Salvador survived for roughly thirteen months, drifting about the ocean on a fishing boat. Alvarenga was found in an atoll in The Marshall Islands, more than six-thousand miles away from where his journey originated, Mexico. Alvarenga said that it all started when he went on a one-day shark hunting trip with a friend, but was soon caught in the midst of a vicious storm that killed the engines on his boat. His shark hunting partner, according to Alvarenga, died four weeks into their time adrift at sea because he couldnt force himself to drink turtle blood and eat raw fish.\r

5. The Robertson family: In 1971, a family of five was stranded at sea for 38 days. The Robinsons, along with their 10 year old twin boys, set out on their yacht to take a trip around the world. The voyage started at Falmouth harbour, Cornwall and took a disastrous turn 18 months later when their ship was attacked and destroyed by a pod of killer whales 200 miles from the Galapagos Islands. After eating all of the food that they had with them at the time, the Robinson family had no choice but to drink turtle blood and contaminated rain water to survive. The matriarch of the Robinson family, Lyn Robinson, who happened to be a nurse, forced her family to stay hydrated by using makeshift enemas that she made using the rung of a ladder, because she knew the rainwater would be extremely contaminated. After 38 days, her method of using enemas to stay hydrated managed to help them all survive until they were finally rescued by a Japanese crew.\r

4. Ada Blackjack: Ada Blackjack is probably the most hardcore woman to ever live. In 1921, Ada Blackjack and four other explorers set out on the risky expedition of sailing across the Chukchi Sea to Russias Wrangel Island. The purpose of the daring journey was to claim the island for Canada. However, things quickly went downhill, as the 5 brave settlers began to realize that they were in over their heads. Having ran out of rations, and options, three of them set out on the 700 mile trip to Siberia, across the frozen Chukchi Sea. Only Blackjack, and one injured explorer stayed behind, learning to hunt food for survival. Unfortunately, after a short time, Blackjack was the only one left still standing. She was eventually rescued, and was the lone survivor of this expedition gone wrong. The most shocking aspect of this story is that Blackjack only came on the expedition to help the explorers as a cook and seamstress.\r

3. Shark Fishermen Lost at Sea- Five men who left for a shark fishing trip from the port of San Blas in Mexico were stranded in the Pacific Ocean for 10 months. The men waved for help at several passing ships but went unnoticed for 10 grueling months. Two of the men passed away during the 10 month span that they were stranded at sea. The three survivors were eventually rescued by a taiwanese trawler. The men drifted 5,000 miles through the Pacific Ocean before being rescued. The survivors stayed alive by drinking rainwater and eating raw fish and raw seabirds.\r

The island that Selkirk called home from 1704-1709, was an uninhabited island located in the vastness of the pacific ocean. He became stranded on this island over an argument he got into with his captain regarding concerns he had about the sailing capabilities of their ship. Selkirk was finally rescued on February 2nd 1709 via a privateering ship called Duke. \r

Honestly, for newlyweds Eddie Stebbings and Bee Bueche, this may have ually been the best honeymoon they could have ever hoped for. The couple ually spent the first few months of their marriage taking care of a colony of 180 baby atlantic grey seals. The newlywed couple became stranded because they did not want to disrupt a seal that had taken up residence in their boat. They stayed on the island until the seal was ready to evacuate their boat. Im sure the experience was something that both will cherish for their entire lives.
