PSL 2018 Full Match Highlights

There couldn’t have been a more entertaining match in the Pakistan Super League than the one we witnessed tonight. Lahore Qalandars edged past Karachi Kings in the most dramatic manner; it all came down to the super over. This was Lahore’s second super over of the season, also only the second in PSL history. Lahore now have a 1-1 record in super overs.

Lahore batted first in the super over: Fakhar Zaman and Brendon McCullum opened for Lahore, they were up against Mohammad Amir. Zaman was run-out on the first ball, a wide, 1 leg-bye, another wide and two singles later Baz was able to hit a boundary before being dismissed on the final ball. They posted a target of 12.

Karachi Kings sent their best hitters, Lendl Simmons and Colin Ingram to face Sunil Narine. Narine started off with a dot ball, a single on the next and Ingram’s wicket on the third. Karachi needed 11 from 3: next in was Shahid Afridi but at the non-striker's end. Simmons refused to take a single on the fourth ball, with a furious Afridi stuck at the other end. Simmons had to hit the next two balls for maximums but could only manage a single. That left Afridi with the last ball and 10 runs to get. He did smash Narine over extra-cover for a six but it was too late.

Earlier, Lahore Qalandars won the toss and put Karachi into bat. Lendl Simmons (55 off 39) and Babar Azam (61 off 49) scored half-centuries to help Karachi post 163/5. This was Babar’s second consecutive fifty. Karachi were 85/1 after 10 overs but could only manage to score 77 in the last 10. Sohail Khan took 3 for 34.

In reply, Qalandars started off brilliantly with Devcich and Fakhar smashing quickfire 20s. Once they left, Agha Salman took the anchor role and dragged Lahore near the target.

Baz scored 15 off 19, but it was Sohail Akhtar who was left with the responsibility of scoring 16 off the last over. He smashed Usman Shinwari for 12 off the first three balls, leaving just 4 to get off 3 balls.

Mitchell McClenaghan was run out next ball trying to steal a buy while Gulraiz Sadaf could only steal one off the next, leaving Akhtar with 3 off the last ball.

The last ball was in slot for Akhtar to smash it - and he did, only to be caught at long on by Ravi Bopara. Karachi dug out ran in celebrating, but the celebrations had to halt as the reviews showed Shinwari had delivered a big no ball.

Then there was chaos. There was a lot of argument on whether the batsmen completed a run or not. Eventually, the umpires declared that the catch was taken before the ball was dead but since the players had corssed, Gulraiz will take the strike.

Gulraiz mistimed the free hit and was run out trying to go for an impossible second, resulting in the second super over of the season.
