China Deploys 60,000 Soldiers To Plant Trees

China is deploying 60,000 members of its People’s Liberation Army to plant trees in attempts to suppress air pollution.
Air pollution was responsible for one-third of all deaths in China in 2016.
Many of the country’s armed paramilitary police have been reassigned from patrolling the northern border to planting trees in Hebei province.
Other air quality-improving efforts include banning vehicles with combustion engines, replacing coal with natural gas and producing solar energy.
