A trucker has been caught on camera chasing a lioness and her three cubs in Gir forest area of India.

Gir is the last surviving habitat of Asiatic lions.

The footage shows the truck driver chasing lions while a person sitting next to him captures the video on his mobile phone.

He drives slowly following the animals as they run. He even veers his truck to the left and right side of the road to stay close to the animals

The video, which was reportedly shot near Pipavav Port state highway in Amreli district of Gujarat, has gone viral triggering widespread outrage, prompting the forest department to order an enquiry.

Reports of men chasing lions for fun periodically surface from Gujarat. Last year, a car driver had chased a cub running for its life while his friend had filmed the act. In a separate incident, a biker had gone after a lionness.

Activists blame India’s lax wildlife laws which allow such miscreants get away with light punishment for the recurrence if such crimes.
