The proportion of income Koreans spend on food has risen to its highest level in 17 years.
Based on data released by the Bank of Korea on Tuesday... the proportion of income Korean households spend on food has climbed to 13-point-8-percent as of September last year.
Korea's central bank says during the first nine months of last year... the amount of income spent on food increased nearly 5-percent from a year earlier to nearly 73-point-8-billion U.S. dollars.
These figures suggest that income levels among Korean households may have decreased, particularly among the low to mid-income bracket... as well as suggesting an upward trend in food prices.
