Located along the Yamanote Line, this street market is always bustling and provides ample shopping options. The literal translation means “candy store alley” but the more intriguing connection dates back to World War II. “Ame” also refers to “America” because the street was filled with American black-market products following WWII. Today, it is an everyday shopping hub where locals and visitors can pick up odds and ends, apparel, cosmetics and even fresh groceries including the catch of the day. Go on, be a kid in a candy store.
